Direct Thermal Printing burns an image directly onto the label and works similarly to a traditional fax machine with heat sensitive paper. With direct thermal printing the image deteriorates over time especially in sunlight or high-temperature environments (e.g. unairconditioned warehouses) but does not require a ribbon.
